What is the food like?
Fantastic wood-fire baked pizza and grilled meat. Da Salvi has a complete Italian menu of mozzarella with tomatoes, bruschetta, beef carpaccio, a variety of pasta as well as a full menu of pizza. The food is made astounding here thanks to the wood-fire oven the middle of the restaurant. The intense heat and smoke from the oven creates a yeasty, marginally burnt pizza base that’s fluffy and crispy at the same time. Taste great regardless of the toppings you put on them. Grilled meat and fishes are also baked in the oven giving it a nice smoky aroma and a burst of flavours.
How is the drinks selection?
Comprehensive. There is a full-service bar with the usual spirits as well as beers on tap. For a full immersive Italian experience, Da Salvi also decent selection of wine from the homeland. And while you are there, how about a limoncello or a negroni?
What is the place like?
Rustic Italian. The place looks a bit tired, but it does transport you to an alfresco dining experience in an Italian garden. With fresco of the hills in Southern Italy on the walls, terracotta tiles on the floor, a glass roof, and a little bit of imagination, you will get there. There is a large true outdoor seating area for the summer days.
Who are the patrons?
Families and groups. The rectangular and square tables in Da Salvi can be pushed together to accommodate parties of 2 to 10 (maybe even 12). And with pizza and pasta on the menu, we are not surprised with the number of families here to enjoy a hearty meal.
How was the service?
Poor. The service was edgy and sluggish during our visit. It was difficult to get the attention of the service staff although the place was relatively quiet then.
Is it child friendly?
Yes. There are sufficient space for prams and the pizza and pasta will certainly be a hit.
Is it dog friendly?
Decent. The prices are average for Grindelwald with meat mains at CHF40 to CHF60 and pasta at CHF20 to CHF27. The restaurant do not charges a discretionary service charge.

House red – Merlot (Recommend)
Good value medium bodied red. A little on the sweet side, but smooth and easy drinking. 500ml for CHF25
Tortellini with truffle (Recommend)
A special for the day. Generous shaving of truffle on perfectly soft cheese filled tortellini parcels. CHF29
Agnello al forno (Strongly recommend)
Four beautifully cooked lamb chops served with mild mint sauce. The lamb chops were pink in the middle, making it flavoursome and juicy. A satisfying piece of lamb. CHF42
Diavola Pizza (Strongly recommend)
A regular crust pizza with mozzarella, salami with tomato sauce with a dash of paprika. Baked in a proper pizza wood-fired oven in the middle of the restaurant and you can tell from the freshness of the flavours. CHF 24.50
